SUNDAY WORSHIP IS LIVE ON-LINE @ 10 AM

Our service is live-streamed at the church’s Facebook page on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am which you can access by clicking  >  HERE <  (Or if you prefer, the site is facebook.com/FairbanksLutheranELCA.) You do not need to be a Facebook user or even have an account (if you see something prompting you that way, just click the NOT NOW button and continue).  If you are not getting sound, click on the small speaker icon in the image screen.

Please know that if the live-stream doesn’t work for you in real-time then shortly after we finish the service, it will still be available to view on that same page.

Fairbanks Lutheran Temporarily Suspends All On-Site Worship Services, Meetings, Events, & Activities

Dear friends in Christ,

It’s hard to share this message with all of you in our community of faith, but the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has brought us to making some difficult decisions:

  • Until further notice all on-site worship services are suspended.
We will be reaching out with ways to share in-home worship as we form an online community in ways that anyone can access.
  • All activities held at the church are also suspended: this includes all Bible studies (including the weekly pastors text study), choir rehearsals, music lessons, community meetings, social gatherings, youth activities, and our midweek Lenten gatherings.
  • All groups who have been using the Community Room have been asked to use other ways to gather as well.

We are making some decisions for the good of the community as a whole and that means making some sacrifices, at least for a time. We are taking these steps not out of fear, but motivated by Christ’s love and concern for all, to protect the vulnerable, both young and old, and to model wise practices for all even as we find creative ways to love and care for one another and for others.  We don’t want meetings at the church to become a source for actually spreading COVID-19.

Fairbanks Lutheran will be a worshiping community, though that will take some new form.  We are currently  live-streaming and/or premiering recorded services on our Facebook page facebook.com/FairbanksLutheranELCA.

We continue to be a community of prayer and sharing our prayer list with you through our email distribution list.  If you or someone you know isn’t currently on our email distribution and they would like to be, please send the church their name and email address and we will be glad to add them.

Needless to say, your church will continue to operate, just in some very different ways, and even in difficult financial times this congregation will need your ongoing support.  Please consider sending your regular contribution by mail (1012 Cowles St, Fairbanks, Alaska  99701) but please don’t mail cash.  This may also be a good time to remind you about things like Simply Giving, an easy way to arrange to make contributions electronically.  Please call Cathy Birklid (see your church directory or call the church office) and she can help you set that up.  To give online using VANCO GivePlus online or by mobile app  >>     CLICK HERE   <<

Members of the Church Council and Call Committee continue following up with check-in phone calls to the congregation so don’t be surprised if a leader of our church calls to ask how you’re doing, if you have questions, or if you’re in need of assistance.  We are a community of faith pulling together in all the ways we can even as we keep safe distancing for a time.  We would also ask you to consider checking in with the neighbors who live around you and with your friends from church; a simple phone call can be such a comfort in times like these.

Don’t hesitate to email or call; contact information is included below.  We are your servants and the community of Fairbanks Lutheran is important to us all.

We’ll close with this prayer from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal:
“Almighty and merciful God, you are the only source of health and healing; you alone can bring calmness and peace. Grant to us, your children, an awareness of your presence and a strong confidence in you. In our pain, our weariness, and our anxiety, surround us with your care, protect us by your loving might, and permit us once more to enjoy health and strength and peace; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.”

Serving together with you in Christ’s name,
Your Church Council leaders
